WAITING FOR THE SUN
by Brittany Durk
Sleep for a time
In shadows
Where light is lost
I look up
Remembering something not soon forgotten
Shadows roll across walls
You and I
Lost in the curves and angles
Where colors are trapped
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
An endless ribbon of time
Spreads before me
And I latch on
Floating
Gliding
Along your song
Along your memory
Slip back into the shadows
Where we lie dormant
Not to be mistaken
For things like
Furniture and
Dust
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
Writing
Yearning
Brushing spiders off my face
Melodies in the distance
An endless ribbon
While you grasp my shadows
In your empty bed
My hair
Scent
On your pillow
Memories dancing across
Walls like shadows
Out of reach
For now
What thou rememberest well remains
Raindrops on a
Dirty window pane
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
In shadows
Where light is lost
I look up
Remembering something not soon forgotten
Shadows roll across walls
You and I
Lost in the curves and angles
Where colors are trapped
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
An endless ribbon of time
Spreads before me
And I latch on
Floating
Gliding
Along your song
Along your memory
Slip back into the shadows
Where we lie dormant
Not to be mistaken
For things like
Furniture and
Dust
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
Writing
Yearning
Brushing spiders off my face
Melodies in the distance
An endless ribbon
While you grasp my shadows
In your empty bed
My hair
Scent
On your pillow
Memories dancing across
Walls like shadows
Out of reach
For now
What thou rememberest well remains
Raindrops on a
Dirty window pane
Waiting for the sun to hit
A prism to split rays
Across rooms
